Dear Parents,

I am excited to be working with each and every one of your children! It has been challenging and exciting, so far, and I am sure it will continue that way to the end of the year!

I would like to inform you of a few changes in our classroom procedures:

Books
Book Reports:

We will be completing book projects in place of the book reports. The first book project will be due on March 12th. Each student should have received a list, "Ways to Share Books," to give them an idea for their project. The project should include the story elements (character, setting, plot). This could be woven into the project, or turned in as a separate peice of their project.

There will be a second book project due April 16th. So students will have about a month and a half to finish their reading and creating the project.

After the second book project, we will go back to the original procedure for book reports. We will do the top six readers for the month of May to finish out the school year.

Homework:

As a class we have decided to make a change in our late assignment procedure.

Starting Monday, March 9, we will have a no late paper policy. Following the due date, students will have two days to hand in any late papers. If the assinments are not in within that two day period, the assignment will be counted as a zero. However, students will still be required to complete the unfinished work, so that we can continue to track progress.

I realize that this sounds like a harsh policy for elementary students; however, I believe it is my responsibility to prepare your child for the middle and high school years. Working on personal responsibility with assignments is a good place to begin!

(This policy does not apply to students that are absent, we can work out a separate plan in those situations.)

Spring
I realize that some of these changes have been challenging to some of the students, but I hope that it has also given them an opportunity to stretch and challenge themselves to becoming more flexible learners!

Again, if there are any concerns or questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with me!

I am looking forward to the next couple of months with anticipation!

Happy Spring!!
